Livia Stoia Literary Agency was established in 2003, firstly operating under the name of Sun Literary Agency and since 2008 under the current brand.
The agency was built and developed on Livia Stoia’s previous professional experience with one of the most important publishing houses in Romania, Humanitas, where she held the position of copyright manager between 1998 and 2003. Seizing the opportunity given by the book market growth, both in terms of number of titles and of number of new publishing houses opened in Romania, she decided to start her own agency, offering services for copyright, co-editions and translation brokerage.
In 2007, Livia Stoia joined DS Rights and Co-editions London, first as agent, then as partner and from 2010 as GM, acting in this position until 2015, when business was closed due to the decrease in demand for co-editions.
At the same time, Livia Stoia continued her activity as agent on the Romanian rights market and in 2009 she decided to expand the agency’s coverage in the neighboring countries, starting with Serbia.
Today, Livia Stoia Literary Agency operates on 21 territories, actually on all Central and East European countries, from Czech Republic to Russia, and from Estonia to Turkey, dealing on regular basis with more than 270 customers. With the headquarters set in Bucharest, the agents and the back office staff manage to have a fruitful and trustful relationship with the main publishing houses in each country, due to their daily activity and also due to the numerous offline meetings, be it in international or national book fairs or in regular business trips.
Considering the experience and capacity the agency acquired over the years, in 2018 Livia Stoia decided to make the next step and to expand the operations worldwide. Thus, she purchased the Spanish agency Ilustrata, aiming to sell rights not only in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), but also in Latin America and, through its network of sub-agents, in other Western European countries (Germany, Italy, France and Scandinavian countries) and Asia.
